The following buyer guide acts as a ready reckoner for the buyer who is not in a position to reach and buy from Jains.

External inspection

External bodywork:
Proper inspection of the external body of the car is very important. By careful analysis we can find out whether the vehicle met with an accident or not . Is there any structural damage to the car . Is re painting has been done on the car .Is there any change in the originality of the car etc… Below mentioned points will guide you in detail. Care fully examine first whether there is any rust formation on the car. Normally rust formation can be seen at the door corners , below the front windshield , under the bonnet at the cowl and at the stud box (Aprons). Carefully examine the sealant ( Rubb er pasting ) application on the doors, Aprons, dicky doors ,inside corners of the dicky for accidents. Carefully examine the original factory punch marks at the front bar above radiator , door sitting biddings , inside dicky for accidents. Care fully examine the paint quality for example ., there should not be any bubbles, over flow of paint , difference in colors , difference in gloss. Any difference in this indicates there is some damage to the body and It has been done up and re-painted. Carefully examine is there any leakage of oil , petrol. Carefully examine is there any chip off , cracks , scrathches in the front windshield. Carefully examine the batch number printed on all the windows and the windscreen.All the number should be same. Always examine the car in a day light. Carefully examine if the tyres are of same make. Wear and tear of all the tyres should be uniform.

Interior inspection

The interior INSPECTION of the cars actually reveals as how well the car has been maintained. But be careful just by the interiors are clean it does not mean that car is good. There are some other aspects which are mentioned below which you should note.
First thing you should examine is to lift the carpet and see is there any damage on the floor or rusting. Carefully check if the seats are sliding and reclining. Examine if there any damage to the seats. Examine if the doors are smoothly opening and closing. Examine if the doors are properly locking and the child locks are properly functioning. Examine if the safety seat belts are properly functioning. Examine if the window glasses properly open and close. If there is power window check if all the switches are functioning properly. Examine if Air condition Switches are functioning properly. Examine if Air condition blower is Functioning properly and cooling properly. Examine if all the elements in instrument panel like Battery indicator, Fuel Gauge, Speedometer, Tachometer, Trip meter, Odo meter, Hand brake light, Temperature etc., are functioning properly.

Road test

It is very important to take a test drive of the car. Road test of the car helps you to understand and analyse the exact condition of the car . It is better to drive the car yourself .It is advisable to take an expert with you.
Check if the engine is cranking immediately once the ignition key is switched on. The radiator fan should start only after few minutes of ignition. Check if the gear engages properly and it doesn't slips. Check if the transmission is not noisy. Check if the brakes are properly working. Check if the clutch is not hard and there is no slippage. Check for the alignment by checking if the car is not pulling on the left or right side. Check for the drive shafts by checking if there is any abnormal sound coming by turning the cars in the right and left side. Check for suspention by checking of any creeking sound by driving the car on the bumps. Check for any abnormal sound in the steering. Check for any rattling noise in the car. Check for the color of the smoke from the exhaust. Blue/Black color smoke means that the engine condition is bad

Under the bonnet

First thing you should check is that the ID plate is fixed in the original factory fitted condition. Check the chasis number punched matches with Registration Book and the ID plate. Check the engine number punched on the plate matches with the Registration Book of the car. Do not open the radiator cap if it is hot. Check if the radiator fan blades are damaged. Check if the engine is making any abnormal sound. Check for coolant level and color. Check for engine oil level and its thickness.


First thing you should check is take the registration book and match with the engine number and chasis number in the car. Check for the number of owners in the registration book. Check the date of registration. Check the model and make of the car. Check the status of road tax. Check if it is free from any hypothecation . if not whether the clearance certificate and No Objection Certificate has been received from the financier. Check the insurance policy and its validity. Check whether No Claim Bonus is there in the policy. If not check is it because of claim or lapse in renewal. Check that the vehicle is from the same state. Check if the color mentioned in the registration book and the color of the car is the same. Check the signature affixed in the registration book is same in the transfer papers.
